About White Rock, BC
White Rock a town of about 21,000 is located approximately 35 minutes or 40 kilometres south of Vancouver. This sea side community is separated from the eight miles of Beach on Semiahmoo Bay by the main line of the BNF/Santa Fe Railway. The climate average temperatures are noticeably much milder than the balance of south east BC. Pilots operating to/from Vancouver describe this area of the airscape as a hole in the sky due to significant weather anomalies. This milder climate has attracted many retirees.
White Rock was originally a community within the Municipality of Surrey. The city derives its name from a large 486 ton boulder left by the glacial retreat millennia ago. The boulder was originally coloured by guano from many birds, but now receives a regular coat of white paint.
